Diablo 4 Warlock — Complete Class Guide (Lord of Hatred)
📖 Who Is the Warlock?
Warlocks are dark, relentless casters who bend demons and the powers of Hell to their will. Hell itself is the source of their power — conjured through ritual, alchemy, and spellcraft. The Warlock is not a servant of Hell; they are its bane, using its unholy fruits against itself.
The Warlock was designed as a dark, frontline demonologist rather than a traditional back-row caster — someone who has been through Hell literally, uses demons as brutal tools rather than allies, and isn't above collateral damage. Visually, the main design inspiration was heavy metal culture.
Their art originated in the Vizjerei clan, whose secret experiments with demonology once led to a civil war. The practice was outlawed, and the survivors were dubbed Warlocks. Today, they continue to study ancient seals, developing their willpower, knowledge of demonology, hellfire, and shadow magic. The return of Mephisto has become their main challenge, forcing them to step out of the shadows.
📅 Release Date: April 28, 2026 — alongside the Lord of Hatred expansion.
⚡ Resources — Wrath & Dominance
One of the most unique parts of the Warlock is its Dual Resource system. The Warlock is a Willpower-based class and utilizes two resources to unleash its skills: Wrath and Dominance.

🔵 Wrath — associated with Hellfire and Abyss skills like Hell Fracture or Doom, leaning into the Warlock's mastery of the arcane arts.
🔴 Dominance — governs the class's summoner skills, such as Profane Sentinel or Wall of Agony.
What makes this system special is the ability to essentially cast two types of skills without depleting all resources at once, allowing you to chain a combination of demonic and arcane skills that other classes simply can't achieve.
🔑 New Keywords — Warlock-Specific Mechanics
Five new keywords are introduced to Diablo IV with the Warlock:
- 💀 Hex — Increases Abyss skill damage taken against enemies based on their missing Life. Stacks up to 3 times.
- 🩸 Eviscerate — Eviscerated enemies instantly lose a portion of their Bleeding Life and then Bleed for additional damage.
- 🌑 Shadowform — Grants the Unhindered effect. Movement transitions the character into Stealth but consumes stacks.
- 😈 Demonform — Increases Maximum Life. While active, kills increase Demonology Skill damage.
- 🔥 Volatility — When using Hellfire skills, gives a chance to randomly empower the next cast for increased damage.
🗡️ Skill Tree — Full Breakdown
The core gameplay loop is built around three pillars: Create (summon demons and battlefield elements), Control (direct and position those demons), and Combo (chain interactions, consume or detonate summons to fuel the next action).

🔹 Basic Skills — Openers & Generators
- ⚡ Doom — Bursts a sigil on enemies, Hexing them and dealing damage. Primary Hex applicator.
- 🌋 Molten Bomb — Lobs volatile lava at an enemy, dealing area damage.
- 💥 Command Fallen — Summons a Fallen Lunatic that charges your target and explodes on impact. A great representation of the Warlock's design philosophy: treating demons as expendable weapons rather than companions.
- 🐍 Hellion Sting — A demonic whip with a chance to Eviscerate enemies. Primary bleeder.
🔸 Core Skills — Main Damage
- 👊 Bombardment — Smashes demons into the ground, each dealing damage on impact. High melee-range burst.
- 💀 Blazing Scream — Sends forth a demonic skull that deals damage as it travels. Strong in corridors.
- 🔥 Hell Fracture — Summons hellfire to fracture the ground, dealing AoE damage.
- 🌑 Dread Claws — Summons claws that race forward dealing AoE damage. Synergizes with Shadowform stacks.
- ⛓️ Umbral Chains — A shadowy chain that links enemies and deals damage. Great crowd control with DoT.
🛡️ Defensive Skills — Survival Tools
- 🌀 Dark Prison — Creates a Shadowy Totem that chains enemies, Tethering them to an area and preventing escape. Core setup tool before unleashing combos.
- 🧱 Wall of Agony — Summons and fuses 5 frenzied demons into a wall for 8 seconds, dealing damage to enemies in front of them.
- 👁️ Profane Sentinel — Summons a tortured demon that Taunts enemies, drawing fire away from the Warlock.
😈 Archfiend Skills — Demonform Combat
Archfiend is a unique skill category. You transform into a demonic form to engage in melee combat. Casting Archfiend Skills while in Demonform can summon additional Greater Demons and dramatically changes the behavior of your entire skill bar.
- 🐾 Rampage — Summons a brute to fight alongside you.
- 🔥 Infernal Breath — Summons a demonic head that rotates around you and spews fire.
- 🤲 Tyrant's Grasp — Summons two additional demonic hands to attack enemies.
- 👁️ Profane Sentinel (Archfiend) — Summons an additional floating eye that follows and bombards enemies.
🔮 Sigil Skills — Zone Control
- 💥 Sigil of Chaos — A destruction zone granting Volatility. Kills inside have a chance to make enemies explode on death.
- 🌑 Sigil of Subversion — Applies Hex in the zone. Kills create shadow trails that periodically grant Shadowform.
- 👹 Sigil of Summons — A ritual that extends summon duration. Kills inside the zone summon additional demons.
☠️ Ultimate Skills — Maximum Power
- 🌀 Apocalypse — Creates a massive Sigil that detonates after a delay, dealing damage to all enemies within.
- 👹 Fiend of Abaddon — Summons a massive fiend for a duration that attacks enemies.
- 🕷️ Terror Swarm — Summons a terror that deals damage and spews a voracious swarm.
- 😈 Metamorphosis — Lets you swap into Demon Form permanently, replacing your entire skill bar with a fully specialized setup. A permanent Demon Form build is absolutely viable — you just have to build for it.
💎 Class Mechanic — Soul Shards (Unlocked at Level 30)
At Level 30, Warlocks unlock their Class Mechanic by selecting one of four Soul Shards, which binds a specific Greater Demon to you and significantly changes your core gameplay loop. Your choice really defines your Warlock — whether you want to surround yourself with demonic minions or harvest their power for your own.
Within each primary Shard, players then choose one of three Fragment sub-options that act as specialization layers, further customizing how the Shard behaves.
🟠 Legion Shard — Bound Demon: Ae'grom

Playstyle: Swarm Summoner
Focuses on biological demon generation and overwhelming volume. Casting a Greater Demon Skill increases Lesser Demon cast speed and cooldown rate temporarily; after many Lesser Demons die, the next Greater Demon Skill cast has no resource cost.
Ae'grom cleaves its enemies for damage. While summoned, this skill becomes Command Ae'grom, causing Ae'grom to summon a swarm of Vile Child Lesser Demons to fight for you.
Fragments: Spawn, Sacrificial, Evisceration.
💡 Best for players who love overwhelming packs with sheer demonic numbers — similar to a Witch Doctor fantasy.
🔴 Vanguard Shard — Bound Demon: Abodian

Playstyle: Frontline Fire Knight
Ride into battle on a hellhound, transforming into a demon and spreading fire as the spearhead of your arsenal. Vanguard feels like a fire knight-type build — aggressive, mobile, melee-adjacent.
Abodian grants the ability to attack enemies while mounted, turning the Warlock into a demonic cavalry unit.
Fragments: Hellguard, Warden, Inferno.
💡 Best for players who want an aggressive, fast-paced, melee-forward Warlock.
🟣 Mastermind Shard — Bound Demon: Laalish

Playstyle: Shadow Controller
Seize the battlefield through oppressive shadowcraft. Mastermind feels like a classical DoT curse theme — more akin to Affliction Warlocks and Shadow Priests from WoW, using control, mobility, and range to damage foes.
Recast Skills no longer break Shadowform Stealth (at the cost of stacks per cast). While in Shadowform, Abyss skills deal increased damage and movement speed scales with stacks. Laalish weakens enemies, deals increased damage, and executes them — each execution reduces the cooldown of Command Laalish.
Fragments: Unfathomable, Blasphemous, Subjugation.
💡 Best for players who love methodical, high-burst assassination gameplay with heavy crowd control.
🟡 Ritualist Shard — Bound Demon: Vollach / Taz'rauth

Playstyle: Hellfire & Explosions
Weave doom through blood-etched rites, letting players leech health from damage. Ritualist comes across as a melee caster using traps, hexes, and spells to cleave or delete bosses.
With Vollach active, siphon its lifeforce to increase your maximum Overpower. With several stacks of Overpower, Occult Abyss skills apply additional Hex to enemies, and Occult Hellfire Skills have a chance to grant Volatility temporarily when cast. Occult skills deal increased damage per stack of Overpower and gain increased size.
Fragments: Abyssal, Empowered, Inferno.
💡 Best for players who want maximum AoE damage, Sigil synergies, and screen-wide explosions.

| Hellhound's Sabatons | After Command Abodian ends, you connect with a fire chain dealing periodic damage and granting increased Movement Speed. |
📜 Class Quest — Disciple of the Forbidden

💡 Build Tips & First Impressions
🔸 A popular early build candidate uses Dark Prison to chain enemies, then hits them with Doom to Hex them, followed by Hell Fracture or Dread Claws for massive burst — explosions for days.
🔸 Metamorphosis + Vanguard Shard is the go-to for players who want a permanent Demon Form — full second skill bar, maximum chaos and aggression.
🔸 Ritualist + Sigil of Chaos is the AoE explosion fantasy — place Sigils, proc Volatility, watch entire screens detonate simultaneously.
🔸 Mastermind Shard rewards patience — stack Shadowform carefully, then burst with empowered Abyss skills for massive single-target assassination.
🔸 Legion Shard is the most beginner-friendly — swarm pets handle most of the work and the playstyle scales naturally into endgame.
🔸 The Warlock presents incredible buildcrafting opportunities — as a summoner archetype, there is a lot of depth to dig into when it comes to skill synergies and the Dual Resource system.
The Warlock launches with the Lord of Hatred expansion on April 28, 2026. Pre-order now to unlock early cosmetics and the Paladin class starting March 11. 😈🔥
