WoW Forever Adds Profession Gear Bonuses, Crafting Tools and Major Quality-of-Life Updates

WoW Forever Adds Profession Gear Bonuses, Crafting Tools and Major Quality-of-Life Updates

Professions are becoming a much larger part of character progression in World of Warcraft: Forever. Blizzard is not simply adding more recipes. Existing dungeon equipment is receiving profession-related effects, new tools combine combat and crafting functions, and the profession interface is being modernized.

Several newly discovered items demonstrate Blizzard's approach. Miners can smelt common metals faster, cooks can reduce preparation time, non-Miners can gather ore with a limited-charge weapon, and Blacksmiths can replace their ordinary profession hammer with a usable thrown weapon.

Several dungeon and crafted items now provide profession-related bonuses in WoW: Forever.

These items are not necessarily permanent combat upgrades. Their value comes from saving time, freeing inventory space, opening new farming options, and giving players a reason to revisit dungeons after replacing their normal gear.

WoW Forever Profession Gear: Quick Overview

Item Source or Requirement Profession Effect
Smelting Pants Gilnid in The Deadmines Reduces the crafting time of Copper, Tin, Bronze, and Silver smelting by 25%.
Cookie's Stirring Rod Cookie in The Deadmines Increases Cooking speed by 25% while equipped.
Rockslicer Rhahk'Zor in The Deadmines Gathers Copper, Tin, Silver, or Iron from a vein without requiring Mining. Limited to 30 charges.
Arcanite Blacksmith Hammer Blacksmithing 270 Functions as a Blacksmith Hammer and can be used as a thrown weapon with a chance to stun.

Smelting Pants Make Early Mining Faster

Smelting Pants are leather leggings dropped by Gilnid the Smelter in The Deadmines. The item requires level 16 and retains useful Stamina and Spirit for characters progressing through the lower levels.

Its unique equipment effect reduces the time required to smelt the following materials by 25%:

  • Copper
  • Tin
  • Bronze
  • Silver

The bonus does not increase the number of bars produced, but it reduces the time spent processing large quantities of early-game ore. Players leveling Mining, Blacksmithing, or Engineering may want to keep the pants even after obtaining statistically stronger leg armor.

This also gives Gilnid lasting farming value. Instead of visiting The Deadmines only for leveling equipment, profession-focused characters have a reason to return specifically for a utility item.

Cookie's Stirring Rod Speeds Up Cooking

Cookie's Stirring Rod is a level 17 wand dropped by Cookie near the end of The Deadmines. It has always been an attractive early weapon for wand users, but WoW: Forever gives it an additional reason to remain in the inventory.

When equipped, the wand increases Cooking speed by 25%. Priests, Mages, and Warlocks can therefore use it as both a combat weapon and a profession tool while leveling.

The effect becomes more valuable because Cooking is also being expanded in Forever. Cooked food provides combat bonuses, campsites depend on Cooking progression, and Blizzard has announced many additional recipes across the leveling journey.

Even after replacing the wand in combat, dedicated cooks may want to keep it for large crafting sessions.

Rockslicer Lets Non-Miners Gather Ore

Rockslicer is a two-handed axe dropped by Rhahk'Zor in The Deadmines. In WoW: Forever, the weapon receives an active ability that can extract ore from:

  • Copper Veins
  • Tin Veins
  • Silver Veins
  • Iron Deposits

The wielder does not need the Mining profession to use this ability. However, Rockslicer only has 30 gathering charges. Once those charges are exhausted, the axe remains usable as a normal weapon but loses its special gathering function.

Who Benefits from Rockslicer?

The axe is particularly interesting for characters who select two crafting professions and normally depend on the Auction House or other players for ore. A Blacksmith and Engineer could keep a charged Rockslicer for occasional Iron or Silver nodes discovered while questing.

Because the item is limited to 30 uses, it should not replace Mining as a reliable gathering profession. It instead provides a temporary source of materials and creates a potentially valuable farming target inside The Deadmines.

Arcanite Blacksmith Hammer Combines a Tool and Weapon

The new Arcanite Blacksmith Hammer is a crafted thrown weapon requiring level 49 and Blacksmithing skill 270.

It provides Strength and Spirit, has a low chance to stun its target for one second, and counts as a Blacksmith Hammer. Once crafted, it can replace the basic Blacksmith Hammer normally carried in a character's bags.

The recipe currently uses:

  • 4 Dark Iron Bars
  • 1 Arcanite Bar
  • 1 Blue Sapphire

This is a small but practical upgrade. The item performs a profession function, contributes character stats, and can be used in combat instead of permanently occupying a bag slot.

The stun is currently listed with a low proc chance, so it should be treated as an occasional bonus rather than a dependable PvP interrupt.

Why These Items Matter

Traditional Classic gear is usually replaced as soon as a stronger item appears. Profession equipment changes that calculation. A weaker item can remain useful because it reduces crafting time, replaces a profession tool, or unlocks an activity the character normally cannot perform.

This design also improves older dungeon loot. The Deadmines now contains at least three profession-oriented items, giving Miners, Cooks, Blacksmiths, Engineers, and material farmers additional reasons to run the dungeon.

Players will need to decide whether the utility is worth the inventory slot. Forever adds more useful situational equipment, but the limited bag space of the original game still applies.

More Than 600 New Profession Recipes

The equipment bonuses are part of a much larger profession update. Blizzard has announced more than 600 new recipes spread across different professions and skill ranges.

Forever keeps the recognizable Classic profession structure. Recipes have fixed material requirements, crafted items have predetermined stats, and professions still use the familiar 1-300 skill progression. The expansion comes from new recipes, revised older crafts, campsite objects, profession equipment, and Legacy bonuses.

Some advanced recipes and campsite blueprints will come from dungeon bosses. This gives crafted progression a direct connection to exploration and dungeon farming instead of placing every important recipe on a trainer.

Profession Interface Improvements

WoW: Forever adds several interface features that should make managing hundreds of recipes much easier.

Feature How It Works
Recipe Tracking Tracks the required materials beside quests and other objectives while farming or visiting the Auction House.
Profession Linking Links the complete profession book in chat so other players can inspect skill level and available recipes.
Have Materials Filter Displays only recipes the character can currently craft.
Skill-Up Filter Shows recipes capable of increasing the profession skill.
Slot Filter Filters crafted equipment by armor or weapon slot.
Search Bar Finds a specific recipe without manually scrolling through the profession list.

Professions Become Part of the Camping System

World of Warcraft Forever camping and profession system

Professions allow players to construct useful objects at campsites. Image: Blizzard Entertainment.

The new Camping system allows players to place profession objects around a campfire. Anyone who rests near the campsite can receive the available benefits, even if they do not have the corresponding profession.

A Basic Campfire supports up to three additional objects. Improved campfires eventually increase that limit to five and then ten objects.

Examples of Profession Camp Objects

  • Blacksmithing: Sharpening Wheel, Anvil, and Master Forge
  • Herbalism: Incense Candle, Greenhouse, and Seed Hybridizer
  • Enchanting: Enchanted Lute, Arcane Salvager, and Arcane Forge
  • Engineering: Reagent Bot, Repair Bot, and Anarchist's Workbench
  • Tailoring: Faction Banner, Spinning Wheel, and Loom
  • Cooking: improved campfires, Cookie's Feast, and Iron Oven

Some objects provide character buffs, while others create reagents, enable advanced recipes, repair equipment, sell supplies, or generate gathering nodes.

Camp bonuses based on class buffs do not stack with the corresponding class effect. For example, a profession object that grants Intellect will not stack with another equivalent Intellect buff.

Professions and the Legacy System

Professions also contribute to the account-wide Legacy system. The first time a profession reaches specific milestones, the player earns Legacy Points:

  • Profession skill 150
  • Profession skill 225
  • Profession skill 300

Legacy Points can be invested separately on each character. Profession-oriented perks can improve skill gains or increase the amount of scarce materials obtained through Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning.

New characters also receive an early quest that can teach one of three gathering professions: Herbalism, Mining, or Skinning. This gives players a source of materials and sellable resources almost immediately after entering the world.

Enchanting Wand Vendor Prices Reduced to One Copper

One related beta adjustment closes an easy profession gold-making method. All common and uncommon wands crafted through Enchanting now sell to vendors for only one copper.

Before this change, Enchanters could transform materials obtained from disenchanting unwanted gear into wands and sell those wands to vendors. Depending on the material source, this could produce consistent profit without needing another player.

The affected group includes familiar leveling items such as Lesser Magic Wand, Greater Magic Wand, Lesser Mystic Wand, and Greater Mystic Wand. These items remain useful as equipment and profession skill-ups, but they are no longer intended as vendor-flip products.

This adjustment is another reminder that Forever remains in beta. Farming routes, vendor prices, profession effects, recipes, and material requirements may continue to change before release.

What Profession Players Should Farm First

  1. Run The Deadmines. Smelting Pants, Cookie's Stirring Rod, and Rockslicer all come from the same dungeon.
  2. Keep utility equipment. Do not automatically vendor an item after replacing it with stronger combat gear.
  3. Level professions while leveling your character. Profession milestones contribute to Legacy progression.
  4. Save rare materials carefully. New recipes may create additional demand for materials that previously had limited uses.
  5. Use recipe tracking. Pin expensive recipes before visiting the Auction House or beginning a farming session.
  6. Watch beta updates. Profession item effects and economic values may change before launch.
