WoW Forever Launch Recap: First Impressions, Server Issues and World First Level 60
World of Warcraft: Forever has opened its doors, bringing players back to a familiar Azeroth filled with new quests, dungeons and places to explore. The launch has already produced plenty to talk about: surprisingly short queues for many players, debates over world population and the first characters to reach level 60.
Here's a look at how the first days of WoW Forever have gone, what players are saying and what's coming next.

WoW Forever Launch: Key Points
Launch: November 4 in the Americas and November 5 in much of Europe.
First impressions: Many players reported short queues and stable gameplay, although the experience was not identical for everyone.
World First 60: A group of five players reached the level cap together in almost 52 hours.
Next milestone: The first three raids are scheduled to open on December 9.
WoW Forever Is Now Live
WoW Forever launched globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST. For players in much of Europe, the same launch happened shortly after midnight on November 5.
Rather than simply repeating the original World of Warcraft, Forever takes the familiar level 1–60 journey and adds new content to it. Players can explore updated areas, discover additional quests, try new race and class combinations and venture into new dungeons.
The base game is available with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. The new Skyborne race is available through eligible Forever upgrade packs.
What Can Players Explore?
- New and expanded areas: Visit places such as Mount Hyjal, Riverglades, Shen'dralas and Zephras Isle.
- More than 1,000 new quests: Find additional stories and rewards throughout Azeroth.
- New dungeons: Discover new group challenges alongside familiar Classic instances.
- Updated classes and races: Experiment with changed abilities, talents and new race and class combinations.
- The Legacy System: Complete challenges and build progression across your account.
- PvP additions: Fight other players and explore the Darkspear Islands battleground.
There's plenty to do before the first raids open, whether your priority is reaching level 60, discovering new quests or simply exploring the world with friends.
How Did the Launch Go?
For many players, the first surprise was how quickly they could get into the game. Reports from launch night described short queues and relatively stable gameplay, especially compared with the long waits some players had expected after the beta.
That doesn't mean everyone had the same experience. Some players encountered queues or a temporarily unavailable ruleset selection screen, while others reported little or no waiting time.
Once inside Azeroth, many players reported being able to level without constant disconnects or major lag. Overall, the early response to server stability was positive, but the first days were not completely free of problems.
Players Discuss Empty-Looking Zones
One of the most noticeable points of discussion was how populated some areas felt. Players reported seeing relatively few characters in places where they expected busy starting zones and capital cities.
WoW Forever uses layering, which creates separate versions of areas to distribute players. That can reduce competition for quest enemies and gathering materials, but it can also make an area feel quieter than players expect from launch week.
Some players appreciated being able to complete quests without fighting over every enemy. Others wanted to see more people around them. Blizzard acknowledged that certain areas were not feeling as populated as intended and said it would work on adjustments.
Faction Restrictions and Transport Problems
Some players trying to create characters on PvP rulesets encountered faction restrictions intended to help manage the balance between Alliance and Horde. This became a particular frustration for players who wanted to join friends on a temporarily unavailable faction.
There were also reports of problems with boats and zeppelins. Blizzard temporarily added portals for some affected routes while working on the transport issues.
These were launch-period reports rather than a guarantee that every issue is still present. Players experiencing problems should check the current in-game situation and Blizzard's latest updates.
The First Players Have Reached Level 60
While many adventurers are still working through their first zones, the race to level 60 has already reached its finish line.
A group of five players reached the maximum level together after almost 52 hours. The team coordinated their experience gains so closely that all five characters leveled up at nearly the same moment.
| World First Level 60 Characters |
|---|
| Jokerd Prime |
| Burning Speed |
| Cloud Bells |
| Lmgd Mmr |
| Vitochie Gofast |
The group used coordinated area damage to defeat large numbers of enemies. A Paladin gathered mobs while the Mages dealt area damage, with the team carefully managing experience to keep everyone at the same level.
It's an impressive early milestone, but there's no need to follow the same pace. Forever's first raids won't open until December, leaving time for players who prefer to quest, explore and level at their own speed.
How Many People Are Playing WoW Forever?
Blizzard has not published an official total for how many people played WoW Forever at launch. Some community projects are tracking characters they encounter in game, but those figures should not be confused with a complete player count.
For example, one community census had recorded approximately 110,900 characters across the US and European rulesets it sampled by November 5. That number represents characters detected by the project, not unique players or everyone online.
Important: Characters Are Not Players
A player can create multiple characters, and a community census may not see every character. The sample is useful for spotting early trends, but it is not an official population total.
Early Class Popularity
In that same early census, Druid, Hunter and Shaman were the three most commonly recorded classes. These are only the shares within that sample, and they may change as more players create characters and progress through the game.
| Class | Share of Recorded Characters |
|---|---|
| Druid | 13.1% |
| Hunter | 12.9% |
| Shaman | 11.6% |
What's Next: First Raids Open December 9
The next major date for level 60 players is December 9, 2026, when the first three raids are scheduled to open.
| Raid | Group Size | Bosses |
|---|---|---|
| The Barrow Deeps | 10 players | 8 |
| Hyjal Summit | 20 players | 13 |
| Onyxia's Lair | 40 players | 1 |
Players planning to enter Onyxia's Lair will need to complete their faction's attunement questline and carry the Drakefire Amulet. Starting that process early can help your group prepare for raid release.
Hardcore is also planned after launch, during the winter window, although Blizzard has not announced an exact date.
Is It Too Late to Start WoW Forever?
Not at all. The first level 60 characters may have arrived, but most players are still beginning their journey, and the first raid release is weeks away.
Start with a class that appeals to you, explore its quests and try dungeons when you find a group. You don't need to match the pace of a coordinated world-first team to enjoy what Forever has to offer.
