WoW Forever Release Date
World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. The launch happens worldwide at the same moment, which means the local date will be November 5 in many European regions.
The base game is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. Optional Forever upgrade packs offer additional benefits, including access to the Skyborne race through eligible packs.
Forever returns players to the original continents of Azeroth while expanding the world with new places to explore, dungeons, quests and progression systems. At launch, characters can level all the way to level 60.
What's Available at Launch?
- Skyborne: A new playable race available through eligible upgrade packs.
- New and expanded areas: Explore Zephras Isle, Riverglades, Mount Hyjal and Shen'dralas.
- Nine new dungeons: Find new group challenges throughout the leveling journey.
- More than 1,000 new quests: Discover additional stories across Azeroth.
- Legacy System: Complete challenges and earn account progression benefits.
- Class updates: Explore new abilities, talent changes and additional race and class combinations.
- PvP: Fight in the Darkspear Islands battleground and explore the updated PvP experience.
The first raids won't open on launch day. Players will have roughly five weeks to level, explore dungeons, improve their equipment and organize their groups.
Early Name Reservation
Before the gates open, eligible upgrade owners can prepare their characters during the early name reservation period from October 27 through November 3, 2026.
Players with an eligible upgrade can create and customize up to three characters and reserve their names ahead of release. The leveling journey itself begins when WoW Forever launches.
If you don't have an eligible upgrade, you'll still be able to create a character once the game opens.
First WoW Forever Raids: December 9, 2026
The first raid release is one of the biggest dates on the roadmap. On December 9, level 60 players will be able to enter three raids with different group sizes.
| Raid | Players | Bosses | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Barrow Deeps | 10 players | 8 bosses | Beneath Mount Hyjal |
| Hyjal Summit | 20 players | 13 bosses | Mount Hyjal |
| Onyxia's Lair | 40 players | 1 boss | Dustwallow Marsh |
The Barrow Deeps: A New 10-Player Raid
Hidden beneath Mount Hyjal, the Barrow Deeps was once the prison of Illidan Stormrage. Now, players will be able to explore its depths as a new level 60 raid.
The instance features eight bosses and has entrances connected to Mount Hyjal, Winterspring and Blackmaw Hold. Its 10-player size makes it an appealing first target for smaller guilds and established groups of friends.
Hyjal Summit: A 20-Player Adventure
Hyjal Summit takes larger groups to the mountain surrounding Nordrassil, the World Tree. With 13 bosses and multiple paths through the raid after the opening encounter, it offers a substantial challenge for guilds preparing a 20-player roster.
For players familiar with Warcraft III, the setting is especially interesting: Mount Hyjal has a long history, and Forever gives players a new reason to return.
Onyxia's Lair: The 40-Player Classic
Onyxia returns in her familiar lair in Dustwallow Marsh. Unlike the two new raids, this encounter requires a 40-player group and preparation before anyone can enter.
Don't Forget Your Attunement
Every player needs the Drakefire Amulet in their inventory to enter Onyxia's Lair. Alliance and Horde follow different questlines to earn it, and the amulet does not need to be equipped.
The attunement involves several steps and high-level dungeon content, so it's worth starting early if your guild wants to face Onyxia soon after December 9.
WoW Forever Hardcore: Winter 2026–2027
Hardcore is planned for the winter after launch, but it will not be available on November 4. Blizzard has not yet announced an exact release date.
Hardcore brings a permanent-death challenge to Forever, changing the way players approach even familiar activities. A difficult quest, an unfamiliar cave or an unprepared dungeon group can all become much more dangerous when a character's life is on the line.
The mode is also expected to feature its own Legacy challenges. If you're planning a Hardcore character, check the final rules and release details once Blizzard announces them.
Spring 2027: Raids, Dungeons and a Legendary Questline
The first major post-launch update is planned for spring 2027. It includes new group content, another playable area and a legendary questline.
Spring 2027 Plans
- Two new raids: one for 10 players and one for 20 players.
- Two new dungeons.
- New quests and a new playable area.
- A new legendary questline.
- A PvP season refresh.
A New Legendary Questline
The legendary questline is one of the biggest mysteries on the roadmap. Blizzard has confirmed that one is planned, but the final reward, requirements and eligible classes have not been fully revealed.
Datamined discoveries have given players reasons to speculate, but those details should not be treated as final. Until Blizzard shares more, the questline and its rewards remain subject to change.
More Options for Small and Large Groups
The planned 10-player and 20-player raids suggest that both smaller groups and larger guilds will have new goals after the first raid tier. Two additional dungeons and a playable area will also give players more to explore outside their raid schedule.
Summer 2027: A Revamped Raid and More World Content
The summer update continues to expand WoW Forever with a mix of raid, dungeon, PvP and world content. It also includes planned updates for professions and the Legacy System.
Summer 2027 Plans
- A revamped iconic raid.
- One new raid.
- Two new dungeons.
- Expanded world content.
- A PvP season refresh.
- Profession and Legacy System updates.
Which Raid Is Being Revamped?
Blizzard has not named the iconic raid shown on the roadmap. There are plenty of possibilities from Warcraft's history, but the identity of the raid remains unconfirmed.
We'll need to wait for an official announcement before knowing which location is returning and how much of the encounter design will change.
Profession and Legacy Updates
Professions and the Legacy System are also listed for the summer update. A complete breakdown of new recipes, rewards and system changes has not been announced yet.
For players who enjoy crafting or progressing across multiple characters, this update could bring new goals beyond raid gear, though the details are still to come.
How Often Will WoW Forever Receive Updates?
Blizzard has discussed a target of roughly one major content release every four months, or around three per year. The goal is to give players time to explore, level and work through each raid tier.
This is a target rather than a fixed promise. Some content may arrive between major updates, and Blizzard can adjust its plans as the game develops.
How to Prepare for the First Raids
You don't have to rush to level 60, but a little preparation can help if your goal is to join a raid group when the first instances open.
- Choose a class and role: Think about whether you want to focus on damage, healing or tanking.
- Find a group: The first raids require 10, 20 or 40 players, so look for a guild that fits your schedule.
- Explore dungeons: Complete dungeon quests and look for useful gear while leveling.
- Develop professions: Crafted equipment and consumables can help with your preparation.
- Start Onyxia attunement: Allow time for the questline and the required dungeon visits.
- Set your own pace: The first raid reset is only the beginning of Forever's planned content.
