WoW TBC Classic Anniversary — Phase 2 Overlords of Outland: Complete Guide

WoW TBC Classic Anniversary — Phase 2 Overlords of Outland: Complete Guide

Phase 1 was, relatively speaking, TBC in training wheels. Phase 2 is where Blizzard removes those wheels, greases the road, and hands you a blindfold. Blizzard is not just opening two more raids — it is pushing the game into a more serious progression phase with Serpentshrine Cavern, The Eye, Ogri'la, Sha'tari Skyguard, Arena Season 2, new recipes, and Druid Swift Flight Form all arriving together.

Release Date & Launch Times

Phase 2 of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic, releasing on May 14th, 2026, at 3:00 PM PDT, is one of the most impactful updates in the Anniversary progression cycle.

Every TBC Anniversary realm moves into Phase 2 together, rather than rolling out region by region over several days.

What's New in Phase 2

There are two new factions to earn reputation with — Ogri'la and Sha'tari Skyguard — plus some new profession recipes including Engineering goggles that are best in slot for many builds as well as Alchemy cauldrons that provide multiple protection potions. Finally, Druids will be able to earn their Swift Flight Form through a special quest chain.

Raid 1 — Serpentshrine Cavern

Serpentshrine Cavern is the first raid in TBC Classic Phase 2, located deep beneath the waters of Zangarmarsh — the lair of Lady Vashj and her naga forces. This raid consists of six bosses and is designed for 25 players. Lady Vashj is the final boss and drops Vashj's Vial Remnant required for Phase 3 progression. SSC is the longer raid and has more mechanics to deal with.

SSC Boss Lineup

Serpentshrine Cavern features encounters with:

Resistance Requirements

Several Phase 2 bosses have hard mechanical requirements around elemental resistance. Hydross the Unstable in SSC alternates between Frost and Nature phases and requires two dedicated resistance tanks — without the correct gear, they simply get one-shot. Leotheras the Blind adds a Fire resistance requirement for the Warlock tank. The resistance cap against raid bosses in TBC sits at 365, and guilds should aim as close to that as possible when fully buffed.

The primary crafted sources come from Blacksmithing: the Iceguard set for Frost and the Wildguard set for Nature. Materials — primarily Primal Water, Primal Life, and the relevant metal bars — are significantly cheaper right now than they will be on Phase 2 launch day.

SSC Loot & Tier 5

SSC drops item level 128 epic gear, with Tier 5 tokens at item level 133, and higher item levels dropping from Lady Vashj herself — up to item level 138, with her weapons reaching even higher. Serpentshrine Cavern specifically provides Tier 5 Helm, Gloves, and Legs tokens.

SSC Attunement

To begin attunement for Serpentshrine Cavern, players will need to locate Skar'this the Heretic in the Heroic Slave Pens dungeon and accept the quest https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=10901/the-cudgel-of-kardesh. Both quest lines require running different dungeons and Phase 1 raids to complete.

Raid 2 — Tempest Keep: The Eye

The Eye matters for much more than cosmetics — it is part of the full Tier 5 progression environment and a major source of raid gear upgrades that will shape the next stretch of the Anniversary meta.

The Eye Boss Lineup

Four bosses stand between you and a complete Tier 5 set. The final one, Kael'thas Sunstrider, is widely regarded as one of the most mechanically complex encounters in the entire expansion. The Eye is generally considered slightly more approachable than SSC in overall difficulty, but Kael'thas himself is very much SSC-level chaos crammed into a single boss encounter with five phases and stolen weapons rolling around on the floor.

The Eye Loot & Tier 5

The Eye drops Tier 5 tokens for shoulders and chest. This means you need both raids cleared every week to build a complete set. Most serious guilds prioritize Void Reaver in The Eye first for easy shoulder tokens, then alternate SSC and TK weekly.

The Eye Attunement

The Tempest Keep attunement is considerably longer. It begins with the Cipher of Damnation chain in Shadowmoon Valley and runs through the four Trials of the Naaru, including a timed Heroic Shattered Halls run and protecting Millhouse Manastorm in Heroic Arcatraz, before finishing with a Magtheridon kill. Completing both chains awards the Champion of the Naaru title in addition to raid access.

Full TK attunement chain:

Account-Wide Attunements

One of the more player-friendly changes on Anniversary realms is that raid attunements are account-wide. Complete the chain once on any character and every alt you have walks straight into the raid.

Tier 5 — Complete Loot Split

Tier 5 Token
Slot
Source
Gloves Hands Serpentshrine Cavern
Legs Legs Serpentshrine Cavern
Helm Head Serpentshrine Cavern
Shoulders Shoulders Tempest Keep: The Eye
Chest Chest Tempest Keep: The Eye

These tokens can be exchanged in Shattrath City depending on faction alignment — Aldor or Scryers — making reputation choices relevant for gearing optimization.

Arena Season 2

Arena Season 2 begins, resetting ladder standings and introducing updated PvP gear. Players who have been grinding honor for tower dailies will enter the new season with a significant advantage.

Key Anniversary-specific Arena changes:

  • Arena weapon rating requirements lowered from 1,850 to 1,700
  • Team charter system removed — no restrictions on who you queue with
  • Same-faction battleground queuing returns
  • Faction Battlegear available at Honored reputation for new PvP players

The reset on May 14 is a hard reset — whatever rating you accumulated in Season 1 does not carry forward. Players who stockpiled honor and conquest points before the phase launches enter Season 2 with a meaningful advantage in early gear acquisition.

Daily Factions

Ogri'la — Blade's Edge Mountains

Ogri'la gives gold, gear upgrades, and Apexis crystal rewards. It is one of the new daily quest factions opening in Phase 2.

Complete the introductory quest chain to unlock daily access. A few dailies feed reputation to both Ogri'la and Sha'tari Skyguard simultaneously — run them in parallel to avoid wasting travel time between zones.

Sha'tari Skyguard — Terokkar Forest

Sha'tari Skyguard gives cloaks, trinkets, and the colorful Nether Ray flying mounts at Exalted. Both factions are good sources of gold, gear upgrades, and mounts throughout Phase 2.

Complete the introductory quests for both factions on Phase 2 day one so daily gold income begins immediately. Players who unlock both on launch day are two to three weeks ahead of those who discover them later.

Druid Swift Flight Form

Druids will be able to earn their Swift Flight Form through a special quest chain. Swift Flight Form gives 280% flying speed, making it as fast as epic flying mounts while keeping instant cast utility for Druids.

For Druid players, this alone makes Phase 2 feel huge. It is one of those milestones that instantly changes how the expansion feels on that character. It is practical, prestigious, and deeply tied to the identity of the class.

Requirements before the quest chain:

  • Epic flying mount trained (5,000 gold investment before Phase 2)
  • The quest chain culminates in Heroic Sethekk Halls with the https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=23035/anzu encounter and the Idol of the Raven Goddess

If you play a Druid, buy Ancient Lichen and Dreaming Glory today — demand spikes the moment Phase 2 opens and the price follows.

New Profession Recipes

New profession recipes include Engineering goggles that are best in slot for many builds, as well as Alchemy cauldrons that provide multiple protection potions — directly addressing the consumption rate that most guilds experience during progression raiding.

Engineering: Epic goggles — BiS for multiple specs across multiple classes. If your guild has Engineers, this recipe alone justifies the profession investment for the entire phase.

Alchemy: Cauldron recipes that produce multiple protection potions in a single crafted item — one of the biggest raid logistics improvements available in Phase 2. One Alchemist with the cauldron recipe can supply a 25-player raid's protection consumables in minutes rather than hours of individual farming.

Phase Progression Roadmap
