Ascendant Venomstones Are Available in Midnight Season 2: How to Unlock and Farm Them

Midnight Season 2 has opened another route to stronger gear. Following the October 20 reset in North America and October 21 reset in Europe, players can unlock Ascendant Venomstones and collect them from raids, Mythic+ dungeons, Delves, and Nightmare Prey.

The important restriction is the slot: these stones upgrade weapons, trinkets, and necklaces, not your entire equipment set. Each upgrade costs 10 stones, and the item must already meet the system's upgrade requirements.

How to Unlock Ascendant Venomstones

Start with Orin Straylight, located beside the Catalyst in Silvermoon City, at approximately 40.0, 64.7.

Complete the research quest. Pick up Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom and collect three Primordial Venom Motes. These come from Ancient Foes in the Vaults of Atal'Utek or Venomous Abyss bosses on Raid Finder difficulty or higher.
Return for the final unlock. After the system becomes available with your regional reset, accept and complete Ascending with Venomstones. Completing the earlier research quest alone is not the final step.
Begin collecting stones. The follow-up unlocks the system across your Warband and awards your first Ascendant Venomstone. This introductory reward is available once per account.

Raid Finder helps with the prerequisite quest, but it is not a Venomstone farming difficulty. The raid sources for the stones themselves require Heroic or Mythic.

All Ascendant Venomstone Farming Sources

Once the unlock is complete, choose activities from the list below. Pay attention to difficulty requirements: ordinary Delves, lower keystones, and easier Prey hunts do not qualify.

Venomous Abyss	Defeat raid bosses on Heroic or Mythic difficulty.
The Unbinding of Kith'ix	Defeat Kith'ix on Heroic or Mythic difficulty.
Nymrissa Wavecaller	Defeat the Season 2 Lair boss on Heroic or Mythic difficulty.
Mythic+ Dungeons	Complete a keystone at +10 or higher.
Bountiful Delves	Open a Tier 11 Bountiful chest using the required key. Awards 1 stone.
Labyrinth of Kindo'jan	Tier 11: 1 stone per three chambers, for 3 stones across a full nine-chamber clear. Bring the required keys for the reward chests.
Nightmare Prey	The first two qualifying hunts award stones through their reward chests, with a weekly allowance of 2 stones from Prey.

How Afflicted and Tormented Souls Affect Prey Rewards

Using an Afflicted Soul or Tormented Soul on a Nightmare hunt adds a bonus reward chest. This can let you obtain both weekly Prey stones from a single hunt.

It does not add another two stones on top of the normal allowance. The regular and bonus chests share the same two-stone weekly limit for this activity.

Early Drop Issues Have Been Fixed

Kith'ix and Nightmare Prey initially had problems awarding stones. Wowhead's updated report confirms that hotfixes addressed those issues. Before starting your farming session, make sure you have handed in the final unlock quest at Orin.

Which Items Can You Upgrade?

Eligible Season 2 weapons, trinkets, and necklaces must be either fully upgraded Hero or Myth items, or maximum-quality Tidal crafted items. The resulting item level depends on the item's original category.

To apply the upgrade, stand near Orin and the Silvermoon Catalyst, then use the stones on an eligible item. The item becomes Ascendant Venomforged and cannot be upgraded further.

Item-level 344 Elevated Myth gear is excluded. This includes the elevated items from Mythic Coiled Altar and Ula'tek. Armor slots outside weapons, trinkets, and necklaces are also ineligible.
