WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.7 — Heroic World Tier Returns for Showdown Zones

WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.7 — Heroic World Tier Returns for Showdown Zones

Patch 12.0.7 is now available for testing on the PTR, and a praised feature from Legion Remix is returning — Heroic World Tier is coming back in a limited capacity for the two new zones being revisited in the patch. This isn't a full world difficulty toggle — it's targeted specifically at the new Showdown zones and comes with its own achievement track, unique bosses, and at least one confirmed mount reward. Here's everything on the PTR so far.

What Is Heroic World Tier?

The concept of a Heroic World Tier was first introduced during the Legion Remix event as an optional phase that players could participate in. In Heroic World Tier, mobs had significantly more damage and health, as well as affixes that made them even stronger. In exchange for dealing with the increased difficulty, players earned additional rewards.

The system works similarly to Mythic+ affixes — enemies gain modifiers that change how they behave and how dangerous they are, while your rewards scale up to compensate. Unlike Mythic+, this happens in open-world zones rather than instanced dungeons, making group coordination more organic and runs more accessible.

The Two New Showdown Zones — Naigtal and Val

Patch 12.0.7 introduces two brand-new areas accessed through a portal in the Voidstorm. Players who remember Legion will recognize the names — both were Minor Assault areas on Argus. They return in Midnight with expanded content, world quests, rare enemies, events, and world boss encounters.

Naigtal — A fungal, arcane-rich world now occupied by an insidious ethereal faction known as the Hal'hadar. The Hal'hadar are a new ethereal faction and the primary enemy faction in this zone. Expect heavy arcane and void-themed encounters.

Val — An icy world once inhabited by the Legion where the Domanaar Imperator Pertinax has established his bastion of power. Val is the colder and more militarized of the two zones — Imperator Pertinax serves as the zone's primary world boss target.

The portal to these worlds is unstable and switches destinations every few days, bringing a rotating set of challenges and experiences. Players can undertake World Quests, defeat rare enemies, take part in events, and ultimately have a showdown with the leaders as world bosses.

Heroic World Tier — How It Works in 12.0.7

Heroic World Tier is returning in Patch 12.0.7 tied to the achievement Heroic Tendencies. This achievement unlocks the mode specifically for Showdowns — activities in the two new areas, Naigtal and Val.

Once Heroic Tendencies is unlocked, you can toggle Heroic World Tier on when entering either zone. Enemies gain additional health, deal more damage, and spawn with affixes that modify their behavior. The difficulty spike is real — this isn't a cosmetic toggle.

All Heroic World Tier Achievements

On the current PTR build, several achievements are connected to Heroic World Tier in the Showdown zones:

Achievement
Requirement
Heroic Tendencies Unlock Heroic World Tier for Showdowns
Heroic Showdowns Meta achievement — likely requires all listed below
Heroic: Worlds Ahead Complete 15 World Quests in Val or Naigtal on Heroic World Tier
Heroic: Power Creep Defeat 10 creatures with affixes in Val or Naigtal on Heroic World Tier
Heroic Climate Strange: Val Dissipate 5 storms in Val on Heroic World Tier
Heroic Climate Strange: Naigtal Dissipate 5 storms in Naigtal on Heroic World Tier
Heroic: Pain of Command Defeat Imperator Pertinax and Nexus-Captain Leth'ir on Heroic World Tier

The Heroic Showdowns meta achievement currently has no criteria listed in the PTR, but based on the structure it will likely require completing most or all of the individual achievements listed above.

Mount Reward — Tortured Gorger

The Heroic Showdowns achievement currently has no reward added to it directly, but one of the mounts in Patch 12.0.7 — the Tortured Gorger — is displayed as a reward for it in the mount journal.

The Tortured Gorger appears in the mount journal tied to the Heroic Showdowns achievement, meaning completing the full Heroic World Tier achievement chain is currently the intended unlock path. This is the first PTR build, so the reward structure is subject to change — but completing Heroic Showdowns should be your primary long-term goal if you're chasing this mount.

Given this is the first 12.0.7 PTR build, additional rewards are expected to be added before the patch goes live.

What About Mythic World Tier?

According to MrGM, a Mythic World Tier string can be found in the Patch 12.0.7 PTR data. However, there is currently nothing to confirm it is active in-game, and no Mythic World Tier content or achievements have been found on the PTR so far.

This suggests Blizzard is at least planning the infrastructure for a Mythic difficulty tier in open-world content, even if it isn't launching with 12.0.7. If the system follows the same pattern as Mythic+, a Mythic World Tier would likely feature the hardest affixes, the highest enemy health and damage values, and exclusive rewards for players who clear it.

No timeline or confirmation has been given. Treat this as an early signal rather than a confirmed feature.

Everything Else in Patch 12.0.7 PTR

The Showdown zones and Heroic World Tier are the headline features, but 12.0.7 contains a significant amount of additional content:

Omnium Folio — New Power System

Join Magister Umbric and Grand Magister Rommath on a mission to reconfigure and restore the Sunstrider Omnium — an ancient elven relic originally created by Dath'remar Sunstrider to study and observe the various schools of magic. After years of silence, it has reawakened, unsettling the Magisters.

Once unlocked, you'll be entrusted with the Omnium Folio — a runic ledger containing powerful runes you can use in battle. Continue taking part in weekly activities to imbue more runes, customizing and unlocking their maximum potential to aid in the fight against the Void.

Lorewalking with the Loa

Experience the lore of the loa with Assistant Lorewalker Li Li. Players will dive deeper into the stories of the Zandalari, Drakkari, Gurubashi, and Darkspear trolls.

Jan'alai Egg Hatching Event

With the return of Jan'alai, Loa of Fire, comes a return to past traditions. She's ready to bring a new clutch of eggs into the world, and Loa Speaker Brek requires assistance with the ceremony and with ensuring all the Loa's young are safely released from their eggs.

Player Housing — Outdoor Lighting

Lighting is now available outdoors. Players can add lights to their plot, with certain restraints that apply outdoors but not indoors. Two lights cannot overlap and become unplaceable when too close — light indicator radius visuals appear when lights are too close and turn red when overlapping. Over 100 new common decor items can be found on existing Neighborhood vendors.

Prey — Season 1 Feat of Strength

A Big Prey Hunter (Season 1) Feat of Strength achievement has been added for completing the Prey Journey in Season 1. Complete it before the season ends — Feats of Strength are permanently retroactive but can't be earned after the season closes.

Moth Hunt Rewards Rebuilt

Blizzard identified issues with tracking Luminous Dust which sometimes caused a mismatch between the number of moths found and the Dust received. The system has been rebuilt using quests — players will not lose existing progress. Glowing Moths no longer give Luminous Dust directly. Mothkeeper Wew'tam now offers a quest reward for every 10 moths collected. Extra decor copies remain purchasable for Voidlight Marl after receiving your first.

UI and Accessibility Improvements

Damage Meters received significant updates: an "In Group" visibility option, a smaller minimum window size, shift-clicking now opens a persistent details window, and PvP activities now show different bar colors for allies vs. enemies.

The Personal Resource Display is now much more customizable — new options include overall size, bar width, health bar height, power bar height, padding, opacity, and separate visibility controls for health and power bars. A new Show Class Color option changes the health bar to class color instead of default green. Show Bar Text adds numbers to health, power, and alternate power bars.

Boss Timeline in vertical orientation now lets you set text to appear on the left or right. The Great Vault raid tooltip now displays credit for multiple raids in a cleaner format.
