WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5 — Lingering Shadows: Complete Overview
Midnight launched on March 2, 2026, and Season 1 kicked off on March 17. Now, roughly seven weeks later, Blizzard is ready to expand the sandbox with the release of patch 12.0.5 on April 21, 2026.
The patch carries the subtitle Lingering Shadows. It's a medium-weight content injection: not a full season reset, not a minor hotfix. It expands existing Season 1 systems, adds two new open-world activity types, delivers a new group-targeted loot system, bolts on a hide-and-seek mode set in Silvermoon City, and adds a spearfishing event off the coast of Zul'Aman.
Patch 12.0.5 is scheduled to launch with a variety of content, from events focused on gaining player power by enhancing gear and making it easier to obtain those sought-after raid or dungeon pieces, to strictly-for-fun modes that yield cosmetics, decor, toys, and more.

Void Assaults — New World Event System

The forces of the Void are vying for position and control amongst themselves in a bid for more power. As they seek every opportunity they can, attacks begin in the Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman zones.
Void Assaults will play out across Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman, with Void Strikes rotating weekly and larger Void Incursions kicking off once enough of the smaller objectives have been cleared.
The two tiers of activity:
Void Strikes — Smaller skirmish events that rotate weekly between the two zones. Once completed, a new one will begin in another part of the zone and continue to rotate.
Void Incursions — These larger scenarios occur when enough Void Strikes have been completed and will take the might of many of Azeroth's champions to defeat them.
Players earn Field Accolades from both Ritual Sites and Void Assaults, which can be spent on Champion and Heroic quality gear and rewards. That gives the patch a much stronger gearing angle than a lot of smaller WoW updates usually manage.
Ritual Sites — Small Group Instanced Content

Put a stop to rituals meant to empower the ambitions of power-hungry naga and Twilight's Blade cultists in small one to five player instances.
Ritual Sites are small-group instances for one to five players, with selectable challenge tiers and Great Vault progress on the World content row alongside Delves and Prey.
Completing higher tiers improves rewards and unlocks Great Vault progress. This adds another gearing path outside raids and Mythic+, and casual players get meaningful progression through this system.
Two sites rotate on a weekly basis: Daggerspine Ritual Site and the Broken Throne Ritual Site.
Voidforge — Targeted Loot System

The most impactful endgame addition in 12.0.5. The Voidforge is a warband-wide progression system that gives players direct control over what gear they chase — something Midnight Season 1 has been missing since launch.
Players will assist the domanaar Decimus with the construction of the Voidforge as they explore the nature of mysterious Voidcores. This progression is warband-wide. With the Voidforge's initial completion in this content update, Decimus gains the ability to transmute Void energy into powerful Nebulous Voidcores every week that can be used to acquire additional loot and chase specific items over time.
The system runs in two phases:
Phase 1 — Nebulous Voidcores: Players can use Nebulous Voidcores to more easily obtain specific equipment, whether they're chasing best-in-slot items on their main character or looking to quickly gear up alts later in the season. Nebulous Voidcores come from raids, Mythic+, Delves, and Prey Hunts.
Phase 2 — Ascendant Voidcores: After players help acquire a new tool that will allow Voidforge's power to reach new heights — the Ascendant Nilhammer — Decimus will return the favor by infusing weapons and trinkets with greater power from rare Ascendant Voidcores.
Only fully upgraded Hero, Myth and maximum quality Radiance Crafted weapons and trinkets are eligible to become Ascendant Voidforged.
For players running multiple characters, Voidforge becomes even more important because Blizzard has positioned it as a warband-wide system rather than a purely isolated character grind.
Decor Duels — 5v5 Hide-and-Seek in Silvermoon City

The most surprising addition in Patch 12.0.5 is Decor Duels, a 5v5 hide-and-seek PvP mode set inside Silvermoon City, built directly on top of Midnight's player housing system. One team of five disguises themselves as housing decor items — chairs, potted plants, bookshelves, barrels, statues — and must blend into the existing environment. The other team hunts them down and must tag disguised players before the timer runs out.
Seekers have a limited number of tags, so randomly clicking on every object isn't a viable strategy.
How to access: Queue via the Group Finder Tool, PvP tab.
Rewards: A mount, toys, and Housing decor through this bite-sized event.
It is also, if past iterations in other games are any indication, genuinely entertaining for approximately two weeks — after which an optimal strategy will be documented and the mode will become a solved problem. Until then, chaos reigns in Silvermoon.
Abyss Anglers — Repeatable Spearfishing Event

Dive deep into the shimmering waters off Zul'Aman's rugged coast, where schools of exotic fish swarm just beneath the surface. Team up to spear as many as you can and rack up points to unlock fishing rewards and upgrades to your diver gear, allowing you to venture deeper into the abyss where the greatest treasures await.
Speak to Depthdiver Jeju in Zul'Aman to enter the event. Teams use harpoons to spear exotic fish and underwater creatures for points. Higher point totals unlock better equipment tiers and cosmetic rewards, including the ability to venture deeper — which is where the better loot lives and the atmosphere becomes meaningfully more lethal.
Rewards include Angler Pearls, dive gear upgrades, and cosmetics.
Class Tuning
The first round of class and spell tuning changes on the Midnight Patch 12.0.5 PTR includes big changes for nearly all specializations. Blizzard notes these are only the first round — additional class changes are planned in future PTR builds.
Key highlights from the tuning pass:
Balance Druid and Subtlety Rogue saw the most impactful tuning. Both shifted away from AoE heavy builds toward priority target damage. That changes rotations and talent builds significantly.
Shadow Priest received buffs, improving viability. Discipline Priest buffs also improve healer viability.
Damage redistribution affects burst specs. Subtlety Rogue AoE nerfs and Shadow Priest buffs influence arena compositions.
Evoker changes: Blessing of the Bronze can now be cast on friendly players outside your party or raid, similar to buffs like Arcane Intellect. This means Evokers will be able to support players around them more easily, especially in open-world content.
Dracthyr — Battle Visage Toggle
A long-requested QoL change for Dracthyr Evokers:
Battle Visage is a toggled ability. While active, you automatically assume your Visage whenever you are not casting draconic spells such as Fire Breath and Soar. After using a draconic ability, you return to Visage form automatically.
This gives Dracthyr Evokers the option to stay in Visage form during combat, except when using spells that utilize their draconic physique, changing back to their Visage afterwards.
UI and Quality of Life
Damage Meter windows now have a minimize/maximize button, leaving only the header bar when minimized. Previously, certain features needed to be enabled in game options before being accessible in Edit Mode. Now, you can Shift-click the feature's checkbox in Edit Mode to enable the feature directly. This applies to features including Cooldown Manager, Damage Meter, Boss Warnings, External Defensives, and Loot Window.
Player Housing: Improved House Exterior Editor, better warnings when swapping house types, new budget icons, and improved decor fade-in at distance.
Further updates to the transmog system include new Situations — now you can have an outfit for when it rains — and a way to macro outfit changes. You can now also link furniture from the Housing catalog in chat.
A smaller but fan-favourite quality-of-life upgrade: you can now control exactly where your weapons sit when not in use. Choose between back, side, waist, or fully hidden. Dual-wielders can configure each weapon independently.
Professions Fix
The Deftness stat now scales at a slower rate for Dragonflight, Khaz Algar, and Midnight professions. As a side effect of squishing stats and item levels, Deftness scaled disproportionately faster than other professions stats, making it trivial to reach 100%+ Deftness in Dragonflight and Khaz Algar professions. This change brings Deftness back in line to expected values.
What This Patch Means for You
If your goal is power progression, Voidforge is the first system you need to understand because it has the biggest long-term impact on how you chase missing loot and improve high-end weapons or trinkets. After that, Ritual Sites are the most important new activity if you care about flexible repeatable content that also contributes to your World row Great Vault. Void Assaults come next as the outdoor event backbone and your other source of Field Accolades.
If your goal is variety instead of raw progression, Void Assaults and Decor Duels are the more immediate log-in-and-do-something-different features, while Abyss Anglers is the more relaxed collectible side lane.
You now have multiple gearing routes outside raids. World content contributes to Great Vault progress. Casual players get meaningful progression. Competitive players gain faster gearing options.
