Midnight's Edge: New Legendary Caster Dagger Coming in WoW Midnight Season 3

Midnight Season 3 will introduce Midnight's Edge, a new Legendary caster dagger obtained through content connected to The Worldcore raid. Blizzard revealed the weapon during the World of Warcraft: Midnight What's Next panel at BlizzCon 2026.

This will be the first Legendary weapon released during Midnight and the first Legendary of the entire Worldsoul Saga. Players will not simply loot the completed dagger from a boss. Blizzard describes it as the reward from an extended questline that begins after overcoming The Worldcore raid.

How to Obtain Midnight's Edge

Blizzard has confirmed that obtaining Midnight's Edge will require players to complete The Worldcore, the eight-boss raid arriving in Patch 12.2. The raid leads deep beneath Azeroth and ends with the long-awaited confrontation against Xal'atath.

Defeating the raid is only one step. The victory will open an extensive Legendary questline that must be completed before the finished weapon can be claimed.

This strongly establishes its Void theme, but it does not tell us whether Midnight's Edge will provide a damage proc, an active ability, a stacking mechanic or different bonuses for healers and damage dealers.

Its final item level is also unknown. Since the dagger is tied to Midnight's final major raid tier, it will likely serve as an important Season 3 power objective, but its exact strength cannot be evaluated until Blizzard reveals the completed tooltip.

Midnight's Edge Is Not Xal'atath's Original Dagger

The weapon's name and Void design immediately led to comparisons with Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire, the Shadow Priest Artifact weapon from Legion.

Blizzard has directly stated that Midnight's Edge is not the Blade of the Black Empire. It is a separate Legendary weapon, even though both daggers are connected to Void imagery and Xal'atath's story.

The official model features a large crescent-shaped blade surrounding a glowing Void sphere. Purple runes, golden metal and sharp projections give it a silhouette that clearly matches the visual direction of Eclipse and The Worldcore.

Which Classes Can Use Midnight's Edge?

Blizzard currently describes Midnight's Edge only as a caster dagger. A final list of eligible classes and specializations has not been published.

Several intellect-based classes can normally equip daggers, but weapon proficiency alone does not guarantee access. Blizzard could restrict the quest, stats or Legendary effect to particular specializations.

It is therefore too early to confirm whether every caster and healer capable of equipping a dagger will be able to obtain or effectively use Midnight's Edge.

Why the Legendary Matters for Season 3

A raid-based Legendary can affect more than progression inside The Worldcore. If Midnight's Edge becomes the best weapon for several caster specializations, it could also influence Mythic+ compositions, raid recruitment and gearing priorities throughout Season 3.

Legendary weapons should feel aspirational, but an acquisition method based too heavily on luck can eventually make players without the item feel disadvantaged. Blizzard has not yet explained how that lesson will affect Midnight's Edge.

The Worldcore is a confirmed part of the acquisition process. Maintaining competitive gear, completing weekly progression and joining a stable raid group will put you in a better position when Patch 12.2 arrives.

Avoid Speculative Purchases

Previous Legendary weapons required expensive crafted components, but Midnight's Edge may use a different system. Buying unconfirmed materials now could result in a large amount of wasted gold.
