WoW Prey Season 2 Guide - New Hunts, Torments, Ral'kala, Corrosive Souls, and Rewards
Prey Season 2 arrives with World of Warcraft Patch 12.1, giving the Midnight hunt system new targets, new Torments, new world-power rewards, and a fresh Renown track. The update pushes players toward the Coiled Isle, where the corrupted ecosystem and Ula'tek's servants become the center of the new seasonal hunt loop.
The biggest changes are aimed at Nightmare Prey Hunts. Normal and Hard hunts appear to continue using Season 1 targets, while Nightmare gains new serpentine enemies, new achievements, busts, effigies, and a new boss encounter: Ral'kala, Terror of the Isle.
Prey Season 2 Quick Summary
- Four new Nightmare hunt targets are being added to the Season 2 pool.
- Torments have been refreshed, removing random command-style tasks.
- Successful Prey Hunts now award Corrosive Souls, used for special bracer and belt powers.
- Ral'kala, Terror of the Isle appears as a new Nightmare-only boss encounter.
- Ral'kala drops Pale Hexscale and Hexflame Reaver, according to PTR data.
- The weekly hunt limit increases to 15 to support the new Coiled Isle content.
- A new Renown track adds cosmetics, decor, pets, a mount, title, and gameplay unlocks.
New Nightmare Hunts in Season 2
Based on Wowhead's PTR testing, Normal and Hard Prey Hunts still use the Season 1 target pool. The new enemies appear in Nightmare difficulty, where four serpentine servants of Ula'tek have been added.
These new targets are not just visual replacements. They come with their own achievements, busts, and effigies, giving collectors more reasons to run Nightmare hunts beyond weekly rewards. The weekly hunt limit has also been raised to 15, likely to account for the new Coiled Isle activity load.

Why Nightmare Hunts Matter More Now
Season 2 is pushing Nightmare Hunts into a more important role. They are tied to new enemies, Ral'kala access, Corrosive Soul rewards, Renown bonuses, and seasonal cosmetics. If you want the strongest Prey progression, Nightmare mode will be the main focus.
Torments Have Been Reworked
Season 2 changes how Torments work. The old random command-style tasks are gone, so players should no longer be interrupted by sudden objectives that force them to defeat a specific enemy, kite a mob, or stun a random spawn.
The danger is still there, but it is more combat-focused. The Torment debuff still ramps up damage taken over time, and the new effects add ambushes, extra enemies, corpse snakes, and rooting traps that can punish careless movement.
New Torment Effects
| Torment | Effect |
|---|---|
| Pack Ambush | A pack of serpentine scouts can attack from the shadows while you are in combat. |
| Exploding Corpse Snakes | Snakes erupt from enemy corpses and explode in venom when killed. |
| Toxic Snare | Envenomed nets are thrown at your location, rooting you and dealing Nature damage if triggered. |
Toxic Snare may be the most dangerous of the three because roots can be hard to see in active combat. Classes without reliable root breaks may need to play more carefully, especially when poison pools and ranged attackers overlap.

Corrosive Souls Add New Outdoor Power
Successful Prey Hunts now award Corrosive Souls. These consumables add special combat effects to bracers and belts, marking those items with the Corrosive tag.

The important limitation is that these powers are not active inside dungeons or raids. They are designed for world content: the Coiled Isle, Delves, Ritual Sites, and similar outdoor activities.
Where Corrosive Power Helps
- Coiled Isle world content
- Nightmare Prey Hunts
- Delves
- Ritual Sites
- Ral'kala progression
Nightmare Hunts also appear to award Spark of Tides directly, though Wowhead notes it is not yet clear whether this is a regular reward or part of a seasonal catch-up mechanic.
Ral'kala, Terror of the Isle
Ral'kala, Terror of the Isle is a new boss encounter tied to Prey Season 2. PTR data shows Ral'kala as an elite NPC connected to Prey: A Ghostly Nightmare and related achievements.
Ral'kala is only available during Nightmare Prey Hunts. The boss can be summoned by burning Ossified Relics at Haunted Braziers on the Coiled Isle while in Nightmare mode.
Ral'kala Rewards
| Reward | Type | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pale Hexscale | Battle Pet | Drop: Ral'kala |
| Hexflame Reaver | Mount | PTR data lists it with Ral'kala rewards |
| Corrosive Souls | Power Consumable | Ral'kala reward track |
| Corrosive Coin | Currency | Bonus from Renown unlocks |

Season 2 Renown Track Rewards
Prey Season 2 also adds a new Renown track. It unlocks after completing the seasonal introductory quest, which requires completing three Prey world quests. One warning from Wowhead: revealing a hunt target location can disable those quests until you acquire a new hunt target.
The Renown track includes cosmetics, decor, toys, pets, a mount, a title, and gameplay benefits that increase Anguish gains, improve Ral'kala rewards, and add extra gear opportunities through Delves.
