Midnight Season 3 Adds Spec-Based Mythic+ Rewards and Astalor Bloodsworn
World of Warcraft: Midnight Season 3 will introduce two major progression changes for endgame players. Mythic+ is receiving a new top 5% seasonal reward and specialization-based rankings, while Delve players will face Astalor Bloodsworn as the season's new Nemesis encounter.
The Mythic+ update is particularly important for players using less popular specializations. Instead of competing against every character on the regional leaderboard, players pursuing the top 1% or top 5% rewards will be compared with others playing the same specialization.
Midnight Season 3 Changes at a Glance
| Feature | Season 3 Change |
|---|---|
| Top 5% Mythic+ Reward | A new seasonal reward tier for players finishing among the highest-rated 5%. |
| Specialization Rankings | Top 1% and top 5% eligibility will be calculated separately for each specialization. |
| Delve Nemesis | Astalor Bloodsworn becomes the main optional Nemesis encounter. |
| Delve Companion | Valeera Sanguinar continues her progression with a higher level cap. |
| New Curios | Additional Curios will provide new ways to customize Delve runs. |
A New Top 5% Mythic+ Reward
Season 3 adds a competitive milestone between the fixed 3,400 Mythic+ rating achievement and the existing top 1% seasonal reward. Players who finish the season within the top 5% of their specialization will receive a new reward commemorating their performance.
Blizzard has not revealed the achievement's final name or reward. It could include a title, cosmetic, mount, or another seasonal collectible, but none of those options should be treated as confirmed until additional Patch 12.2 information appears.
| Mythic+ Goal | Season 3 Status |
|---|---|
| 3,400 Rating | A fixed rating milestone that remains separate from percentile rewards. |
| Top 5% | New specialization-based seasonal achievement and reward. |
| Top 1% | Existing seasonal reward moves to specialization-based eligibility. |
| Top 0.1% | No confirmed changes have been announced. |
How Specialization-Based Rankings Work
Beginning with Midnight Season 3, a player's top 1% and top 5% eligibility will depend on their position among other players using the same specialization.
For example, a Protection Warrior will compete against other Protection Warriors rather than tanks, healers, and damage dealers from the entire Mythic+ population. The same rule will apply to every specialization participating in the season.
Why This Helps Off-Meta Specializations
The current overall ranking system naturally favors specializations that appear most frequently in the highest keys. Meta classes have more opportunities to join optimized groups, practice difficult routes, and accumulate rating near the top of the leaderboard.
The new system does not remove class balance or group-composition problems, but it gives players a reason to push with the specialization they actually prefer. An off-meta player will no longer need to outperform the entire Mythic+ population to become eligible for these two reward tiers.
Spec-Based Does Not Mean Easy
Percentile rewards will remain highly competitive. A less popular specialization may have fewer participants, which also means fewer available reward positions. Popularity, regional participation, balance changes, and the final weeks of the season will all affect the required rating.
Blizzard has not yet explained how multi-specialization characters, minimum participation requirements, or regional population differences will be handled. These details should become clearer during Patch 12.2 testing.

Astalor Bloodsworn Is the New Delve Nemesis
Astalor Bloodsworn will become the primary Nemesis encounter for Midnight Season 3 Delves.
Astalor is already closely connected to the Prey system. Throughout Midnight, he has studied and extracted anguish from dangerous enemies, converting their suffering into a source of magical power. By Season 3, that same power appears to have affected him directly.
Players will confront Astalor as an optional high-difficulty challenge. Blizzard has not yet revealed his complete ability list, encounter location, difficulty tiers, or rewards.
What Is a Delve Nemesis?
A Nemesis is a more demanding seasonal Delve opponent intended for players who want a challenge beyond regular Delve progression. These encounters generally reward preparation, strong companion setups, suitable Curios, and a clear understanding of the boss mechanics.
Because Astalor is described as an optional challenge, ordinary Delve players should still be able to progress through the season without defeating him immediately.
New Opt-In Delve Challenges
Season 3 will also add optional modifiers designed to demonstrate the full power of anguish. Blizzard compared the early concept to Prey Torments, suggesting that players will be able to accept additional danger in exchange for a more demanding run.
The system is still in early development. The number of modifiers, their effects, and any additional rewards have not been confirmed.
Valeera and Delve Progression Continue
Valeera Sanguinar will remain the Delve companion in Season 3. Her progression cap will increase, allowing players to continue improving her seasonal abilities rather than starting with an entirely different companion.
New Curios will provide additional build options, while existing Delves will receive new variations. Familiar routes may therefore include different encounters, hazards, objectives, or enemy combinations during Season 3.
What Players Can Do Before Season 3
- Practice higher Mythic+ keys on the specialization you intend to push.
- Build a regular group instead of relying entirely on late-season pick-up groups.
- Track your position against players using the same specialization.
- Complete current Delve progression and learn how Curio combinations affect your build.
- Prepare several gear and talent setups for single-target and multi-target encounters.
- Wait for Blizzard to reveal the top 5% reward before choosing it as a primary seasonal goal.
Players seeking the top 1% or top 5% reward should remember that the final cutoff will remain dynamic. Reaching the percentile early will not guarantee that the character remains inside it when the season ends.
What Has Not Been Confirmed
- The name and appearance of the new top 5% reward.
- Whether the top 0.1% title system will change.
- How rating will be assigned when a character plays multiple specializations.
- The minimum number of eligible characters required for each specialization.
- Astalor Bloodsworn's abilities, difficulty options, and rewards.
- The exact effects of the new opt-in Delve challenges.
- The increased level cap and complete Curio list for Valeera.
- The release date for Patch 12.2 and Midnight Season 3.
Why These Changes Matter
The Mythic+ change creates a more realistic competitive path for players committed to an off-meta specialization. Performance still matters, but the comparison becomes more relevant because every competitor is working with the same class toolkit.
Meanwhile, Astalor gives Delve players a recognizable seasonal antagonist whose story has been developing since the beginning of Midnight. Combined with new Curios, companion progression, Delve variations, and optional anguish challenges, Season 3 should provide more than a simple difficulty reset.
