WoW Patch 12.1.7 Mount Preview: Talebound Rewards, a Flying Storybook, and a Candy Cane Contraption

The latest World of Warcraft: Midnight Patch 12.1.7 PTR build has revealed another batch of mount models. Much of the collection is connected to Talebound, the upcoming story-driven game mode, while the wider preview also includes additions associated with the Trading Post and Winter Veil.

The selection ranges from woodland creatures and eerie steeds to a mount built around an enchanted book. There is also a festive candy cane contraption and a set of Stegodon model variants. For collectors, the important distinction is that a datamined model does not confirm its final acquisition requirements or release timing.

Talebound Mounts Found on the PTR

Talebound accounts for most of the named rewards in the new preview. The PTR roundup identifies the following nine mounts as associated with the mode, although detailed unlock requirements are not established for every entry.

Shadowbound Storybook

The Shadowbound Storybook gives the collection a clear centerpiece: a mount based on the pages of an enchanted book. It also has firmer confirmation than many of the newly discovered entries, since Blizzard has already featured it in official Talebound reward previews.

How Talebound Cosmetic Rewards Work

Blizzard has confirmed that Talebound awards Bound Silver, a Warband-bound currency earned through quests, achievements, and story progression. Players can spend it on cosmetics through the Talebound store, accessible from character selection, the Game Menu, or Nib in Quillgrave.

That establishes the mode's broader reward structure, but it does not mean every mount in the table has the same purchase conditions. Individual prices, achievement requirements, and any progression restrictions still need confirmation.

A New Winter Veil Mount Preview

Winterrrgl's Pine-Powered Candy Cane Contraption

The seasonal standout is Winterrrgl's Pine-Powered Candy Cane Contraption. Its festive design takes the preview in a very different direction from Talebound's darker rewards, putting an oversized candy cane at the center of the mount.

The roundup associates the seasonal additions with Winter Veil, but the model reveal alone does not establish whether this mount comes from a quest, vendor, achievement, or random reward. There is no verified drop rate or purchase price to plan around yet.

Other Mount Models in the Datamine

The new files also include Reanimated Skeletal Raptor and The Watcher in the Waves. Trading Post additions are reported in the broader PTR roundup, although collectors should not treat this model preview as a finalized monthly catalog with confirmed prices.

Stegodon Model Variants

Wowhead's preview includes four Stegodon model variants under a placeholder heading. These are worth watching, but four model renders should not automatically be counted as four separately obtainable mounts. Their final names and reward sources remain unclear.

What Collectors Should Watch Next

Talebound is the clearest collection target so far, with Shadowbound Storybook already supported by Blizzard's official previews. The next useful details will be individual mount requirements, Bound Silver prices, and confirmed Trading Post or holiday availability.

Until those arrive, use these images as a preview rather than a farming checklist. All models shown are from the PTR and may change before release.
