Altar of Fangs Dungeon Guide: Bosses, Mythic+ Strategy, Loot and Rewards

Altar of Fangs is a three-boss dungeon added in Patch 12.1 and included in the Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ rotation. The dungeon is located on the Coiled Isle, inside the Vaults of Atal'Utek, and uses a compact 29-minute Mythic+ timer.

This dungeon is built around poison effects, serpent enemies, heavy soak mechanics, and several casts that need clean interrupts or dispels. Good groups will save a lot of time by assigning interrupts before the key starts and by planning boss movement carefully.

Altar of Fangs Location and Entrance

The Altar of Fangs entrance is found inside the Vaults of Atal'Utek on the Coiled Isle. There are multiple entry points into the vault area, but the dungeon entrance itself is at /way #2509 47.2 67.6.

Players who time Altar of Fangs on +10 or higher unlock the dungeon teleport spell Path of Venomous Evolution.

Bosses in Altar of Fangs

Important Interrupts, Dispels and Purges

Altar of Fangs can become messy if groups let poison and control effects overlap. Assign interrupts before the key starts, and make sure the healer knows which debuffs must be removed quickly.

Boss Strategy

Rav'i Strategy

Rav'i is a hydra-style first boss where positioning matters more than raw damage. The tank should keep the boss away from Fresh Meat, because bad positioning can make the fight far more chaotic than it needs to be.

Ravenous Stomp deals AoE damage and drops Fresh Meat, so move the boss after it lands. Triple Shot targets two players with AoE circles, so the group should spread before impact.

Players also need to dodge Regurgitate, which fires a cone of waves. During Ssscavenging, break the shield and handle the soak mechanics quickly.

The Writhing Coil Strategy

The Writhing Coil is the most punishing boss for groups that fail movement checks. Toxic Atrophy must be interrupted, and it is cast three times in a row, so assign a clear interrupt order.

Dodge Burrowing Charge and be ready to move when the boss pulls players in. During Death Rattle, everyone must run away and break the effect. If the full group fails this mechanic, the pull can collapse instantly.

When the boss uses Uncoil, it splits into five targets that all take damage. This is a strong cooldown window for classes with cleave and stacked AoE.

Zul'jan Strategy

Zul'jan is the final boss and the main execution check of Altar of Fangs. The key mechanic is Ritual of the Fang, which creates beams that must be soaked before they reach the boss.

Pre-assign players to starting positions before the pull. This prevents confusion when the beams spawn and keeps the group from over-stacking in one area.

Ritual Venom can kill players when it expires, while Boneslicer applies a DoT and removes all Ritual Venom stacks. Soaking a single Boneslicer correctly can clear the dangerous debuff stacks.

Finally, dodge Axegrinder. The glaives bounce through the room, and unnecessary hits can quickly turn a clean kill into a healer panic check.

Trash Tips for Mythic+

Click every totem in the first area. The group needs to interact with the totems before progressing to Rav'i.
Control High Evolutionists. Use crowd control to stop Evolve.
Break empowered shields quickly. The Empowered High Evolutionist in the second boss room should be focused down fast.
Kill the Ascendant Serpent after boss two. This elite enemy must die before the group can continue.
Use stuns and kiting on Ravenous Descendants. Their attack speed can become dangerous for tanks, but short control can reset the pressure.
