Nebulous Voidcore Bonus Rolls in WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5

Nebulous Voidcore Bonus Rolls in WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5

Patch 12.0.5 is now live, and with it comes the Voidforge — the most impactful gearing system added since Midnight launched. Nebulous Voidcores are a new bad luck protection system, very similar to previous implementations of Bonus Rolls, but now significantly better. They let players target items for a variety of content with a guarantee that they will eventually get the item they want — including raids, dungeons, Delves, and Prey Hunts.

In practice, the Voidforge feels like having a smart, targeted bonus roll system that remembers what you've already looted. Once you start seeing duplicate-prone slots fall off the pool, the odds of finally hitting that stubborn trinket go up in a way you can actually feel over a few weeks.

Step 1 — Build the Voidforge

Before you can touch a single Nebulous Voidcore, the Voidforge itself needs to be completed. The unlock process is technically simple: complete the Building the Voidforge introductory questline from Decimus. What it requires in practice is a week-by-week progression through endgame content to craft six Elemental Voidcores — one by one.

To create a single Elemental Voidcore, you must collect three https://www.wowhead.com/item=265695/elementary-voidcore-shard. Bring them to Decimus, complete the short turn-in, and repeat via the repeatable quest https://www.wowhead.com/quest=94625/an-elementary-voidcore until all six are done. You can track your progress and pick up the quest by going to https://www.wowhead.com/npc=235697/decimus, who is located in The Voidstorm.

https://www.wowhead.com/item=265695/elementary-voidcore-shard fall automatically from content you are already doing for vault progress — raids, Bountiful Delves, and Mythic+ dungeons. Three shards of any mix craft one Elemental Voidcore. The system is generous by design.

Important catch-up note: You could have been doing this since Patch 12.0.1. If you weren't, five Elemental Voidcores were already craftable before 12.0.5 dropped — meaning you needed exactly one more to complete the forge. If you started this week, you can now complete all six in a single week as a catch-up mechanic.

Progression toward building the Voidforge is warband-wide. The Voidforge is open to all your characters the moment any one of them finishes construction.

Step 2 — Complete A Nebulous Endeavor

Upon completing the 6th and final Elementary Voidcore quest, the Voidforge is finished and the bonus roll system immediately becomes available. Decimus will first give you A Nebulous Endeavor — an introductory quest that walks you through spending your first bonus rolls and automatically unlocks three new exchange quests, giving you a choice of how to purchase Nebulous Voidcores going forward:

Of these three options, 80 Veteran Dawncrests is widely considered the best value. Veteran Dawncrests are relatively abundant and become quickly outmoded once you reach higher item levels — spending them on Voidcores rather than gear upgrades you'll soon replace is the smarter call. Regardless of which option you pick, completing any one of the quests grants both weekly Nebulous Voidcores, represented by a new world tracker.

One note: taking an extra bonus roll from the vault before completing Decimus' quest will count against the weekly cap. It's recommended not to risk it.

Weekly Cap — How Many Can You Get?

You will initially get 2 https://www.wowhead.com/ptr/currency=3418/nebulous-voidcore per week and continue receiving two every week. This is a weekly cap that increases by 2 every week until the end of the season — meaning if you miss a week you can always catch up later.

The total number of https://www.wowhead.com/ptr/currency=3418/nebulous-voidcore available to a character increases by two every week for the remainder of Season 1.

Bonus Voidcore from the Vault

Players can also purchase a https://www.wowhead.com/ptr/currency=3418/nebulous-voidcore from Vaultkeeper Elysa for 6 https://www.wowhead.com/item=258556/thalassian-token-of-merit of Merit after having completed Decimus' quests to unlock the Voidforge. Nebulous Voidcores acquired in this way do not count against the weekly increasing cap.

Thalassian Tokens of Merit are obtained from the weekly Great Vault if you choose not to take an item — exchange them at Vaultkeeper Elysa near the Great Vault for an extra core each week.

How to Use Nebulous Voidcores

Using Nebulous Voidcores is fairly simple. When you defeat a Midnight Season 1 raid boss, complete a Mythic+ key, a Nightmare Prey Hunt, or a Bountiful Delve, a small window pops up allowing you to roll for that specific loot table. You will receive one of the items from the respective loot table.

Important: Set your loot specialization to the correct one before using a Nebulous Voidcore. The roll is spec-specific — a wrong loot spec wastes the core.

Also important: The interface appears for every eligible activity. Be very careful — you really don't want to absentmindedly spend one of those precious rolls on content you didn't intend to.

Cost Per Activity

Content
Nebulous Voidcores Required
Raid Boss https://www.wowhead.com/currency=3418/nebulous-voidcore
Mythic+ Dungeon https://www.wowhead.com/currency=3418/nebulous-voidcore
Bountiful Delve https://www.wowhead.com/currency=3418/nebulous-voidcore
Nightmare Prey Hunt https://www.wowhead.com/currency=3418/nebulous-voidcore

Due to the smaller loot pools and the exceptional power of raid items, raid boss rolls cost two https://www.wowhead.com/currency=3418/nebulous-voidcore. Other endgame content, such as Mythic+, costs only one. As a result, acquiring a particularly desired trinket, weapon, or ring is likely to require a similar total of https://www.wowhead.com/currency=3418/nebulous-voidcore regardless of source. A player chasing a trinket from a raid boss with three total items matching their Loot Specialization is likely to receive that trinket in roughly the same amount of time as acquiring a trinket from a Mythic+ dungeon with six total items.

Item Level of Rewards

For raids, the reward will be either Heroic or Mythic depending on the difficulty you defeated. For Mythic+ content, the gear you receive is equivalent to what you'd get from the Great Vault — making it much easier for Mythic+ players to accumulate Myth-track gear.

A +10 or higher key is where you start seeing Myth-track rewards from Nebulous rolls, making those keys the ideal place to spend your weekly cores.

Duplicate Protection — How the Pool Shrinks

This is what separates Nebulous Voidcores from the old Bonus Roll system. Once you have looted an item from Nebulous Voidcores at a specific difficulty, you will not be able to receive that same item when using Nebulous Voidcores again on that difficulty — but the item can still drop normally from the activity.

Items already received are removed from the pool on a per-difficulty basis until the entire pool is exhausted, which means you will eventually get the item you want. Note on difficulty separation: killing Heroic Belo'ren and obtaining a trinket there does NOT remove it from the Mythic loot pool. Two different difficulties, two different pools.

Where to Spend — Best Strategy

Spend your baseline Nebulous Voidcores on +10 or higher keys that drop your target trinkets and weapons. Use Tokens of Merit to buy an extra Nebulous Voidcore, then drop that on a raid boss with a unique best-in-slot drop if you're actively progressing it. Raids are worth spending cores on, but the two-core cost per boss means you should reserve that for specific trinkets or weapons that don't exist in dungeons.

Method recommends waiting to use your Nebulous Voidcores on the highest difficulty content you can do, and preferably only on Mythic+ and raid bosses. Target key items that hold the most value — prioritize instances and raid bosses where the loot table has multiple upgrades and high-value items such as best-in-slot trinkets.

What Comes Next — Ascendant Voidcores

Once the basic Voidforge is complete, Decimus starts you on the next quest chain. Following the Voidforge's construction, Decimus will ask players to assist him in crafting the Ascendant Nilhammer — a powerful tool capable of manipulating Ascendant Voidcores to empower worthy equipment.

Upon completing this warband-wide journey over the course of several weeks, players may begin acquiring Ascendant Voidcores from Midnight Season 1 endgame content including raids, Mythic+ dungeons, Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare difficulty Prey Hunts. Consuming an Ascendant Voidcore infuses an eligible weapon or trinket with additional power to increase its item level. Only fully upgraded Hero, Myth, and maximum quality Radiance Crafted weapons and trinkets are eligible to become Ascendant Voidforged.
