The Burning Crusade Anniversary Pre-Patch Overview

The World of Warcraft development team has officially announced that the pre-patch for the "Fresh Start" realms of The Burning Crusade Classic will release on January 14, 2026. The launch date for the full expansion has not yet been revealed.

CHARACTER PROGRESSION & TRANSFERS

Since "Fresh Start" The Burning Crusade Classic is a direct continuation of the current "Fresh Start" WoW Classic realms, players must decide the fate of their characters.

• To play TBC Classic: No action is required. If you want to continue your adventure into Outland, simply leave your character where it is.
• To stay in Classic (Era): If you wish to keep your character permanently in the level 60 Classic world, you must initiate a free transfer to "Classic Era" realms.
• Transfer Window: Open from November 25 to January 13.

Important: Once the pre-patch is released on January 14, all characters remaining on "Fresh Start" realms will automatically evolve into The Burning Crusade Classic heroes, and transfers to the Classic Era will be closed permanently.

Leveling alternate characters or new mains becomes much smoother, with the experience required to get from level 20 to 60 reduced by roughly 15%, alongside improved quest experience rewards. Additionally, the cost of learning Flying skills and purchasing mounts has been lowered, removing a major financial hurdle from the original game.

The Jewelcrafting profession launches in full force during the pre-patch, allowing artisans to reach skill level 300 and stockpile powerful gems before the Dark Portal opens. The level cap increases to 70, sending adventurers through the Dark Portal to tackle zones like Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh, Terokkar Forest, and Netherstorm. The initial raiding tier opens immediately, featuring Karazhan, Gruul’s Lair, and Magtheridon’s Lair.

For 5-player content, Heroic Dungeons become the primary objective for gearing up. However, accessing these requires a Revered reputation standing with specific factions. Phase 2

 Highlights: Serpentshrine Cavern (SSC), Tempest Keep (TK), and Profession advancements.

Additionally, the requirement for Heroic Dungeon keys is lowered from Revered to Honored, significantly speeding up the gearing process for alt characters and newcomers. This phase is often where guilds find their stride, utilizing catch-up mechanics to push toward the expansion's major villains.

Phase 3.5

3.5 Highlights: Zul’Aman (ZA).

Phase 3.5 introduces the 10-player raid Zul’Aman. Designed as a bridge between tiers, ZA offers high-quality loot that helps players catch up to Tier 6 power levels without needing to farm older Tier 5 content repeatedly.

The raid also features the legendary "timed run." Groups that can clear the instance within a strict time limit are rewarded with the prestigious Amani War Bear mount, adding a competitive speed-running element to the phase.

Phase 4

Highlights: Sunwell Plateau, Magister’s Terrace, and the Isle of Quel’Danas.

The Anniversary edition concludes with Phase 4, unlocking the Sunwell Plateau. As the final destination of the expansion, this raid features the climactic battle against Kil’jaeden and stands as one of the most punishing challenges in WoW history, requiring flawless team execution.

Alongside the raid, the Isle of Quel’Danas opens as a daily quest hub, driving the server-wide Shattered Sun Offensive effort. Players can also explore Magister’s Terrace, a new 5-player dungeon that drops excellent endgame loot to help prepare for the final battles.
